Being borned in Hong Kong and trained by renowned masters of Chinese painting and calligraphy, I have a very strong Chinese traditional culture imprint. Chinese visual arts as if a bowl of refined tea sooth my spirit. Since 1988 I have been living in Quebec, and the western culture has a profound impact on my art just like the aromatic but supple red wine overwhelming my senses. Merging the artistic ideas from the east and the west but remaining distinct from each others is my aim at creations. Whether my works are classified into traditional, contemporary or avant-garde, they are the reflections of me, an artist of eastern root and western influence.
"The artist, in a personal and unique manner, creates the link between East and West . . . Ngan Siu-Mui, as a painter and calligrapher, uses all of her amazing talent to merge the form and the Chinese calligraphy, thereby walking away from tradition but keeping a strong link with it."
