About Ngan Siu-Mui
Trained in Hong Kong by the great masters, Chao Shao-An and Leung Tse-Kong, in the art of Chinese painting and calligraphy, Ngan Siu-Mui has since been recognized as an authentic artist devoting her time, energy and talent to create realms of artful expression. Albeit young at the time, she mastered the Chinese brush techniques and could demonstrate accuracy, sentiment and vitality in her strokes.
Since settling in Montreal, the western culture influence merged with her versatility in Chinese arts creating a unique style. The energy and elegance of the Chinese brush movements become embedded into the acrylic and the texture on canvas. This contrasts dramatically with her former use of traditional Chinese water-color
Flower, bird, large animal, insect, landscape and calligraphy, all exhibit a balance in composition, vibrant energy and delicate harmony. Art lovers are invited in a realm of superbness, a realm of modern works breathing the spirit of traditional Chinese arts.
Recognition and awards
Her arts have been recognized by many. She contributed to the film Red Violin and to the advertising of the Xi’an Exhibition held at the Quebec Civilization Museum. Merging Colours, a film focusing on Chinese artists, features her as a prominent artist working in Montreal. On the invitation of the Xianyang Calligraphy Stele Committee and the [Record of History] Museum of Shaanxi in China, her calligraphy had been engraved in stones. She was invited to be one of the main speakers in art conferences and seminars in China and Seoul.
Her awards include a Certificate of Distinction from the Taiwan Art Education Center, mentions of distinction from the All China Art Exhibition in Taiwan, medal of Excellence from the Asia Art Award Selection Committee in Korea. For her contribution in the Quebec culture, she received the Certificate of Quebec Honorary Citizen.
Collection
From her very first 1981 solo exhibition in Hong Kong City Hall, she has gained outstanding success. Her work is found in private collection, corporate collections and museums in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Australia, England, France, United States and Canada.

Communities involvements
Besides being a professional artist, she has been an active leader in the art communities. She was one of the founders and president (1981-1991) of the Xiao Feng Arts Society (Hong Kong), founder of the Traditional Chinese Culture Society of Montreal and the International Calligraphers Association of Canada.
